You have to work hard not to like Michael Jackson's music, assuming you subscribe to 'death of the author' theory (which, as a good semiotician with a love of Roland Barthes, of course I do). But here's a true story: it was listening to Alien Ant Farm's fantastic cover of this song, waiting in line-up for a Costco gas pump, that I realized I had to do a cover for this cover. The song is already set in the era of vintage retro pulp paperback covers, so finding a literal visualization of Annie and her blood stains wasn't hard.
